Alternative Medicine

The center remains in tune with the complexity surrounding medicine and understands the need for alternative medicine.

Alternative medicine is any healing practice, “that does not fall within the realm of conventional medicine.” It is based on historical or cultural traditions, rather than on scientific evidence.

Alternative medicine methods are diverse in their foundations and methodologies. Methods may incorporate or base themselves on traditional medicine, folk knowledge, or newly conceived approaches to healing. The major alternative systems have many common characteristics, including a focus on individualizing treatments, treating the whole person, promoting self-care and self-healing, and recognizing the nature of each individual. The boundaries between alternative medicine and mainstream medicine, as well as among different alternative medicine systems, are often blurred and are constantly changing.

Traditional western medicine remains on the forefront of the centers philosophy.
Our evidence-based practice (EBP) aims to apply the best available evidence gained from the scientific method to clinical decision making. It seeks to assess the strength of evidence of the risks and benefits of treatments (including lack of treatment) and diagnostic tests.
EBP recognizes that many aspects of health care depend on individual factors such as quality- and value-of-life judgments, which are only partially subject to scientific methods. EBP, however, seeks to clarify those parts of medical practice that are in principle subject to scientific methods and to apply these methods to ensure the best prediction of outcomes in medical treatment, even as debate continues about which outcomes are desirable.

The Center wishes that every person functions optimally within the limitations of their pathology. Following the relief of the acute pain, and if needed surgical intervention, the final stage to function is reintegration. With the resources at hand we aim for the optimization of the quality of life to attempt full restoration. A team approach to chronic or acute conditions is emphasized to coordinate care of patients. Rehabilitation is provided by specialists, (inclusive of physicians of multiple disciplines and therapists in this field) who act as facilitators, leaders, and experts for rehabilitation.
